01 - The Self - Mannaz ... REVERSED

The Rune Mannaz Reversed

The summary opposite concerns the reversed interpretation of the
rune Mannaz. The upright interpretation is different.

The theme of the upright version of Mannaz is:
"Everything starts with the self".

This is one of those runes for which the "reversed" interpretation differs from the "upright" interpretation.

Mannaz-reversed suggests an individual in the situation of standing alone without help or support from others. In some situations it may suggest that one is one's own "worst enemy".

For example, mannaz-reversed can describe and reflect situations that involve some blockage. In such cases it is time to look within oneself for release from the impasse or frustration. Are you holding firm to an attitude that seperates you from success ?

Try exploring a different perspective or interpretation of any situations that are causing concern. Be aware of what is happening around you. Who is saying what to whom, and why ?

The meanings of the runes.

Note that each rune may be referred to differently in different texts. One reason is that some books prefer to use the traditional meanings as the names/titles of the runes (as we do here). Other books refer to runes using the Old English name, their Old (High) German names, or their modern English letter equivalent. There are also other sets of symbols that are associated with runes. These are more difficult to represent electronically because they do not all correspond to standard alpha-numeric characters. More about the runes as listed here.

Other terms used to refer to this rune are mentioned below:
The first rune in the series listed on the left is The Self (Mannaz).
The name of this rune in English is "man". It is associated with the modern English letter and sound "m". The Germanic name of this rune is "mannaz".
